I'm still getting my head around much of this as well. I think establishing a personal learning network is crucial in all this because it's all too easy to feel overwhelmed by the deluge. I'm still working on that part really - one of the reasons for saying hello here really :)

I've more or less decided to forgo the forums - which are getting too raucous and argumentative for my tastes - and focus on the readings, and visiting people's blogs. I find it much easier to focus on the subject matter and getting to know people that way

Cheers,

Jeannine...

Sorry I missed your invitation last week...was at a PLC conference in Moncton...as you know, I am encouraged that we have someone with your personal vision as Chair of the DEC. I hope you are able to spread that vision among the collective...the next four years should bring exciting opportunities.

Talk soon I hope...

It is so encouraging to see two people many miles apart concentrating on the same subject in relatively the same time frame. Communication is extremely important. I think that you have hit on the key element that communication is the way to connect parents to the classroom and the Internet has a great role to play.

Thanks for commenting on my blog post at Technology for Learning.
I am a grad student, a K-12 technology director, and a parent, and also following carefully Lorna's work and the podcasts (they're great).
In addition to my blog, I am also hosting a wiki at Parent 2.0. The wiki is open to membership and I would love for you to join. It is quite new, and looking for folks to add content, links and discourse. A couple of pages that are locked will be open for additional content next month. The focus is for parents and teachers working together in a technology enabled-world. There is much research about parent involvement and/or engagement but little about the role technology does (or does not) play.
I look forward to more dialogue, and hope many attend the next parents as Partners podcast.

[...] This morning I received an email from a parent who was starting her own blog and wanted to connect but was not sure what was the proper etiquette in linking blogs. Let me tell you first how excited I was to find a fellow blogger - I called her a kindred spirit - interested in finding and connecting parents using blogs. Second that she found me on the web through her own personal network and searching on the net. Third that she blogged about the Parents as Partners webcasts and this web site. Fourth she had tried to complete the Parent Survey and identified for me a glitch that I had not foreseen and consequently I was able to improve the survey. WOW talk about the power of the Internet and how full circle blogging proves what Jeannine St. Amand writes about in her post Participatory Media. [...]
